Rapid City Ordinance: Backyard Chickens
Dear Red Rock Estates Homeowners,
The City of Rapid City is currently in the process of adopting a new ordinance that would allow residents to keep up to six hens (no roosters) in backyard coops, subject to specific regulations related to sanitation, setbacks, and final approval.
While this ordinance may permit backyard chickens within city limits, it does not override existing Homeowners Association (HOA) covenants and restrictions.
Please be advised that Red Rock Estates HOA covenants (Article III, Section 14) do not allow chickens or other poultry to be kept on residential properties. All homeowners are required to continue following HOA rules and guidelines, regardless of changes to city ordinances and this rule remains in effect regardless of any changes at the city level.
